The Program Committee- coordinates the annual calendar of events including the monthly general membership meetings and plans CME and other educational programs for the Society. Members are encouraged to suggest topics, speakers, and meeting locations. This committee is chaired by the Vice President/President-elect and maintains the CME accreditation documents for the Society.
The Finance Committee- prepares the annual budget for presentation to the Executive Committee and collects/records dues payments for the Society. This committee, which is chaired by the treasurer, supervises all fundraising activities for the Society, oversees long-term financial planning for the Society.
The Membership Committee- maintains the membership roster of the Society and conducts recruitment and application reviews of new members to the Society. This committee administrated the 1994 update of "The African American Physicians Directory of Greater Baltimore", established by the Society in 1988.
The Legislative Committee - has been charged with establishing and maintaining liaisons with our local, state, and national legislative officials and agencies for the purpose of keeping the Society membership informed on current and proposed health care legislation. This committee keeps these legislators aware of our concerns and our views on health care and physician practice issues. Maintaining an information base of the health care policy positions of our national parent society as well as other health care societies is and important function of this committee and your input is welcomed. This committee works also with the Community Relations Committee to conduct an annual political health care forum.
The Scholarship Committee - works closely with the Finance Committee on two levels: making recommendations regarding the Scholarship Endowment Fund and planning the annual Scholarship Fundraiser Event. In 1990 the Society established scholarship awards for African-American medical students. This committee directs the recruitment, review, and selection of the scholarship fund recipients as well as planning the awards presentation program.
The Community Relations Committee - plans and coordinates events, programs, and activities which serve to promote and enhance the Society's presence in and relationship with the community. Community outreach and education are primary functions of this committee as well as interfacing with the local media. The first annual political health care forum sponsored by the Society for the community was held in April 1994 and featured the state gubernatorial candidates. Your participation would be valued in areas such as the establishment of a Speakers Bureau and networking with mentoring programs in the community.
The Grants and Research Committee - is a unique opportunity for members to explore and evaluate grant opportunities which may assist the Society in the implementation of our programs, goals, and objectives. Those members with grant writing skills and experience are urged to serve on this committee. Current or proposed research projects affecting our community when presented to the Society for comment or invited participation will be reviewed by this committee and presented to the Executive Committee.
The Practice Enhancement Committee - serves as a networking vehicle for members of the Society and promotes physician-community mutual access. This committee plans and coordinates programs and activities that will enhance the ability of member physicians to maintain viable practices within our community. The welcoming of new physicians and/or medical residents to the area is the responsibility of this committee. Your participation is welcomed. |
